Without the ego, you step in front of the bus...

How much “ego” do you need?
A: Just enough so that you don’t step in front of a bus.
~ Shunryu Suzuki

Do not leave the ego out of unconditional love. "No ego" and we step in front of the bus, or do not clothe, cleanse and feed ourselves. πŸ˜’Masters who claim to have lost theirs have a lot of servants to take care of their bodily needs.
John Stibbs Or to put on clothes when it's cold ...
Patricia Massias Yep. If we had no sense of self we wouldn't even be able to feed ourselves, or wipe our own butts! πŸ˜„ πŸ˜Ž☯️πŸ’Ÿ
Ron Alexander As long as we are in this body, we need an "ego". The ego is not a demon, in fact it is an essential part of our psyche, as part of a systemic concept formulated by Freud. In his system, it is the CONSCIOUS connection between the lower survival self, the id, and the higher superego. Only recently has new age "thinkers" demonized it. No part of us is junk.

Steven Kuchinsky I think that in today's "new age" terminology, Freud's id, ego, and superego are all part of the ego, which includes feelings, thoughts, judgements. I'm not stating this as a fact, just how it seems to me.

Ron Alexander Thanks Stephen and that is part of problem. Understanding functions of different brain parts helps. The "ego" when referred to in the negative is really the "id" in Freud's thinking. This is from the lower part also called the reptilian brain, which is our survival fearful part. We need this to survive like an animal does too. However, we need to grow past that caveman mentality to thrive in sociery?

Ron Alexander Or feed and bathe yourself. Masters who claim to have lost theirs have a lot of servants to take care of their bodily needs.

Peter Jaekle Yes, let the Mind be in useful devotion to the Self. As Hanuman is to Rama.

Ron Alexander THE BUDDHA has it right, it is not the "ego", it is our thinking even negarively about the ego.
