1. The reptilian part (spinal cord. medulla oblongata) keeps you alert, makes you do what is necessary to survive, and provides you with the aggressiveness and power you need to fulfill your agendas. This corresponds to the Id in Freud's system.
The base of the brain contains the cerebellum, and it directly connects to the spinal cord (or brainstem). It is sometimes referred to as the reptilian complex, or the "lizard brain." You might be wondering, "What do I have in common with a lizard?" Well, all living creatures have basic functions that must be performed in order to sustain life. Those functions originate in this lowest, most primitive part of the brain such as: reflexive behaviors, muscle control, balance, breathing, heartbeat, feeding/digestion, and reproduction.
2. (This would correspond to the ego in Freud's system)
Your limbic brain motivates you to engage in a meaningful give and take with other creatures. It is the source of your emotions and your urges to nurture. The limbic system is a complex set of structures that lies on both sides of the thalamus, just under the cerebrum. It includes the hypothalamus, the hippocampus, the amygdala, and several other nearby areas. It appears to be primarily responsible for our emotional life, and has a lot to do with the formation of memories.
3. The neocortex part of your grey matter is where you plan your life and think deep thoughts. (This corresponds to the superego in Freud's system)
The neocortex, also called the neopallium and isocortex, is the part of the mammalian brain involved in higher-order brain functions such as sensory perception, cognition, generation of motor commands, spatial reasoning and language. The neocortex is further subdivided into the true isocortex and the proisocortex.
Personal note to Librans: "All three of these centers of intelligence are currently working at their best in you. How will you use your enhanced savvy?"
