Quoted on Garrison Keillor's "Writer's Almanac"(gratefulness.org)
Blessing must arise from within your own mind. It is not something that comes from outside. When the positive qualities of your mind increase and the negativities decrease, that is what blessing means. The Tibetan word for blessing … means transforming into magnificent potential. Therefore, blessing refers to the development of virtuous qualities you did not previously have and the improvement of those good qualities you have already developed. ― Dalai Lama XIV

Thank you Miriam - excellent addition to this wonderful quote!
My version is "True affluence is having what you need, and knowing the difference between "want" and "need."

Well thanks for your addition Catherine - I have done a workshop with Brother David Steindle-Rast who is the founder of Gratefulness.org. He is a Benedictine Monk who is given Papal permission to work with other religions. The Workshop with him was at a Buddhist Zen Center. This sweet gentle wise man meditates with a very simple Mantra like "I love Jesus" or something like that - His book Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer is wonderful.
