True Affluence

True affluence is not needing anything.
Gary Snyder
Quoted on Garrison Keillor's "Writer's Almanac"(gratefulness.org)

MIriam StJohn Agree wholeheartedly. The more you can do without the richer you are. Unfortunately, some think that the more you have that you need the richer you are.

Thank you Miriam - excellent addition to this wonderful quote!

My version is "True affluence is having what you need, and knowing the difference between "want" and "need."

Love the daily quotes sent from Gratefulness.org!

Well thanks for your addition Catherine - I have done a workshop with Brother David Steindle-Rast who is the founder of Gratefulness.org. He is a Benedictine Monk who is given Papal permission to work with other religions. The Workshop with him was at a Buddhist Zen Center. This sweet gentle wise man meditates with a very simple Mantra like "I love Jesus" or something like that - His book Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer is wonderful.
