Mercy - Forgive Everyone

MERCY (Sharon's Angel Card combined with Ho'Oponopono)

"To develop the quality of mercy, forgive yourself and everyone around you."

"I am sorry,
Please forgive me,
thank you.
I love you."
(Ho'Oponopono)

Be magnanimous, see the good in others and give them the benifit of the doubt. Open up to compassion, but most of all access the wisdom within that recognises the Divine in every creature.

When you temper your attitude to others with mercy, you offer them grace. You spread much light, joy and freedom and empower others to find the good in themselves.

The angels of mercy are offering you release from your pain or difficulities. Accept it graciously.

In Search of Stillness - Monkey's Mind or Monk's Mind?

After I returned from a ten day silent Vipassana Retreat, I have been asked "Why would you even want to be in silence for ten days?" That was a good question,I,too, would have thought it crazy, if I had not seen the "Dhamma Brothers" documentary, about the amazing transformation of lifer prisoners (some convicted murderers) after they spent ten days of silent Vipassana Meditation. The dedicated teacher and servers were locked in the prison with them. Are not many of us prisoners' of our own wild mind?

Now it is about 4:30 in the AM while I am writing this - the time of our first meditation at the monastery. The first of 11 hours of meditating, with no talking allowed for the whole ten days. It was not easy, many times I felt like just bolting to the off limits parking lot, and driving away leaving with some lame excuse. I think this early AM time is significant. It is one of the quietest times of the day. In searching for this quiet, this stillness, I am searching for clarity and mainly for peace of mind. And isn't that what we all want really? More than anything else?

Gordon Hempton wrote in his book, One Square Inch of Silence : "We all have special places, we seek to be in quiet, in peace, in silence. Silence makes me feel alive. There are no distractions in silence and it is here that I find what is truly important in life." In another place, he wrote "my most powerful instruction comes to me in silence and it is simply this: That everything in life is about love."

Well, "love" is a very large subject, so for me what distills my answer to what I seek for in stillness, in silence is best described as peace of mind. I went in looking for clarity, and I have more of that, however that is because I have more peace in my life. I continue the practice, the teacher recommends - one hour of meditation in the AM and one hour in the PM - truthfully not 100%. However, the more I become quiet, the more I want it. And practically, it makes me more rational, more reasonable and easier to get along with.

Quoting Hempton again: "There is Quiet, a stillness in all of us. Therefore, we thirst for quiet and silence, as we thirst for water. We search for silence in quiet places such as forests, oceans, gardens, churches, libraries, and in our homes. Our quest for silence comes also in prayer or sleep."

Buddhists have that special monkey mind name for the crazy uncontrollable thoughts that imprison many of us - moi for sure! However, the quieter Monk's mind is better suited for daily life - relationships at home and at work and creativity. The more I meditate, the more of a Monk's Mind I have to soothe my almost out of control mind. Meditation is helping me find that still place within - finally more peace of mind!

Hi Ron
Wonderful sharing. It was the 10 days of stillness and silence that I loved the most about Vipassana. I loved it. And silence is still my favorite space. My living accommodation is not the quietest of place, but being able to be "in stillness and silence" in my own space within the outer noise is wonderful and I feel so spacious in this silent and still Beingness .Every here and now I find that wondrous still place within and knowing that this is the place one can always be, one continues on continuing.

Inner Space in Meditation - A Choice Point?

The Dalia Lama on Space:

Many Eastern Philosophers and Buddhists in
particular speak of four elements of earth, water, fire
and air, which space is added as a fifth element.
The first four elements exist thanks to the fifth one,
space, which allows them to manifest and function.

According to certain Buddhist texts like the
"Kalachakra Tantra", space or ether is not a total
void or nothingness. It is composed of "emptiness
particles". The four elements arise from these
emptiness particles, going from the subtlest
matter to gross matter(air, fire, water, and earth),
and this process is called generation.
Then they dissolve back, from gross matter to subtle
matter, and dissolve into emptiness particles,
and this process is called dissolution. Space,
or universal emptiness, is the basis of the entire
process.
"Light of Consciousness
(Journal of Spiritual Awakening) Autumn 2009 Issue"

In his New Earth, Eckhart Tolle writes about
the amazing amount of space in our bodies - "99.99%
is space" compared to the minuscule amount of physical
form.
"So your physical body, which is form, reveals itself
essentially formless when you go deeper into it. It
becomes a doorway into inner space. That inner space is
intensely alive, although it has no form. It is life
in its fullness, the unmanifested Source out of which
all manifestation flows. The traditional word for that
Source is God.
That "intense aliveness is an intrinsic part of the joy
of Being."
..."Through complete acceptance of the form of the Now,
you become spacious inside. Aligned with space instead of
form: that brings true perspective and balance into your
life."
(P. 250-253)

Now this brings me to similar personal experiences of
enlarged inner space during Vipassana meditation, and
a good description from Iman Omar Rahman in
Letters from the Dhamma Brothers:
"Experiencing openness and learning to open
myself more has allowed me to access more of the space
of my existence. When an adverse occurrence arises
around me I'm less reactive because I have space to
see and act with skill, I'm less caught up in anger
when it flares or any other negative feelings. I'm
less hooked if you will. I can let go. I have more
space within me to be otherwise..."

P. 117-118

Ron's question:
Does this space allow us choice point to
respond rather than to react?

Dear ron Alexander,
This is very true and when we do V-Meditation we can experience this void also.
Because we have to dissect our body and the have to go deeper and deeper and the we can experience such void in our cells of the body and organs

More on Channeling yourSelf

What I took Away from Vipassana by Elizabeth Feisst
Hi All

I completed 3 10 day Vipassana meditation retreats in Pomona, Queensland Australia 1999-2001 before I emigrated to Isle of Man in 2003.

What I took away mainly from these experiences is the power of observation and the ability it gives one to shift circumstances, situations and feelings through allowance and acceptance of all being as it is in the Now Moment. For through observation, change is inevitable...and for the better!

I have never been one for accepting anything as a "fait accompli" and tend usually to adapt any so called "system" to suite my own way...apologies S.N.Goenka...but that is who IAM. ... { Psssttt.... I never did really enjoy SN Goenka's lectures in the evenings of each course. Instead I tended to go off into my own space of silence and meditation once again...one can never get too much of that space!}

I now tend to not defer to anyOne outside of Self.....yet having said that I do honour all that Vipassana has contributed to my present state of Being....and for that I am eternally grateful.

In Love, Joy & Freedom

Ron Alexander
Dear Elizabeth, as I wrote you personally, I really enjoy your words about what I call "channeling yourSelf" and generally agree with them. The difference for me is that I really enjoyed Goenka's Discourses each day, and purchased a book about them, so I feel like I still have much to learn from Goenkiji, Vipassana, "older old students", his assistant teachers, and that includes You too, my dear. thanks for starting this "disscussing" (I wish we had "dialogues" instead.) One Love, ron

Jeanne posted:
“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.” ~Buddha

I also don't hear Goenka's discourse... but then I could tune out a rock band in my basement... and have done so. I did listen on the first 10-day course... I was all ears, but after hearing it at least once... I fade away. But I do love Goenka and everything he has done. I know of no other who has established an organization as he has.

Now that you've done 3 10-day courses, you are eligible to do sattipattanas. They're different than the 10-day courses... the 20 and more day courses don't have any discourses. The discourses are for the benefit of the beginner to understand the process they are experiencing.

We use a CD at home with his voice leading a sit... it helps put us in the mode. His voice that was so odd to me in the beginning... now assists and comforts.

Elizabeth replies:
Hi All, thanks for your input.....Onederful how we all get differences from each experience we choose in life. This is attributed to our uniqueness of course.

I am no longer a V purist! I knew when I left my last Vipassana 10 dayer it would be the last I felt required to attend. Like Frank, I tend to Be life "My Way" and over the past few years my own individual Vipassana meditation "sits" I have blended with conscious connected breathing I learnt way back in the 80s and they have become meditation "lie downs" which I do most nights when I don't sleep (ascension has one not sleeping most nights anyway!).

Ron while I said I don't defer to anyOne outside mySelf these days I do read material here and there (especially presently while locating resource material for my own ning forum) and watch videos...but usually the response these days is like a "ok, that's interesting" rather than a deep resonance of such as I used to get....I rarely read books these days however.

Nor am I a "group" person now, preferring by far my own company these days. Living a quiet life in retirement on my own, by the sea with no dependencies and few attachments and material possessions, life is simply sweet.

Vipassana I have much to thank for as.it has contributed much to My Beingness.

An Exercise in Forgiveness

An exercise in forgiveness
Posted by Christa Lore Urban
Hello after reading a recent post I decided to share this exercise in forgiveness, years ago when I first learned it, I was helped a lot.
1. Select a quiet place to sit, and a time you can be alone.
2. Sit comfortably, preferably with your spine straight. Don't cross your arms or legs, let the energy flow.
Relax your neck and shoulders. Breath slowly into your abdomen until you feel the wave of relaxtion wash over you.
3. Move your attention to your heart and move your breathing through your heart. Breath in love and breath out love. The mentally direct the next breaths of love to your emotional body, feeling them like a cool and soothing breeze. Then in your mental self feel added clarity and with each breath.
4. Surround yourself with pure light and that you are blessed by spirit and your healing is for the highest good.
5. In your minds eye create an altar made of light, design it any way you like. It is made of the higest and purest substance in the universe. Your subconcious mind knows that an altar means sacrifice and release. This symbol is quickly transmitted to your inner mind.
6. Place the person you want to forgive on the altar of light. Visualize the light moving through every cell of his form. Direct your heart to surround this person as you say. "I forgive you for all your trangressions, real or imagine, remembered or unremembered, from this lifetime or any other."
7. Now dissolve that image into the light
8. Now place yourself on the altar of forgiveness and see yourself bathed in healing light
say to yourself: "I forgive myself for any negative energy I have held against, ____________. use their name. real or imagined, remembered or unrembered, from this lifetime or any other.
Now let yourself be completely dissolved in the light
9. The last step is important. Express you gratitude to spirit for its aid and empowering energy. Thank
spirit as you see fit.
10. Gently bring yourself back to a concious state.
11. Take good care of yourself for the next 24hours or so and drink plenty of water.

NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE by Elizabeth Feisst

"Freedom's just another word
for nothing left to lose"
from the song that Janis sang
and perfect for one's muse

More and more in nakedness
when stripping to the core
one wonders who one really is
while stripping more and more

Inside out and outside in
with no place left to go
except allowing Self to Be
and going with the flow

Releasing all and everything
one's standing there alone
all by one's Self - full Self exposed
all bare and on one's own

Death is a birth of Self arriving
freedom's in the air
nothing now at last to lose
carefree and fully there

And here and everywhere around
a ray of golden light
expanding like a rising sun
a bright light in the night

Trumpets sound and angels sing
a cosmic celebration
resounding 'cross the universe
and 'yond to all creation

Delicate & Open

Doren Damico's Blog Today

Today
Open
Delicate Wings
Arise and say:
Yes

I wrote her back: "Butterfly sitting
Wings spread out on stone
Dracula shadow."

Then I told her "mine was darker than hers, and I like hers better."

Doren answered:
One thing that kinda gets my bile up is how people filled with positivity and light, can be so judgmental about negativity and dark. That isn't my thing. I see the perfection of the universe. Even my most worst experiences have been opportunities for growth, and some of the best lessons for love. So, no hidden apologies necessary. Did the butterfly make you think of dracula?

I told her that was duality, and that I was guilty of it many times (a day) unfortunately. Then I mentioned about liking Rumi's poem about "meeting in a field beyond differences. And that yes, a butterfly with spread out wings's shadow does look like dracula."

Seven Steps to In & Out Loving Kindness

Choosing to Take Responsibility for Seeing, Having & Being Love

1. The Power of Choice: The Power of Change,
A Mantra of Change
(L. Zimmerman - copyright 2007)

I choose not to see the un-love.
I choose instead to see the love.
I am your mirror and what I choose to see in you
will be reflected back to you.
I have the power to choose and I choose to see the truth of you.
I choose to see the love of you.

I choose not to see the darkness.
I choose instead to see the light.
I am your mirror and what I choose to see
will be reflected back to you.
I have the power to choose and I choose to see
the light of you.

I choose to see the wisdom you've gained
through the pain you've experienced.
I am your mirror and what I choose to see in you
is that you are stronger than which you've experienced
I have the power to choose to see beyond the suffering.
I pray that the strength I see in you is reflected back to you.

I choose to see the freedom that is your soul
I acknowledge the apparent limitations in which you live
but I see you with the wings of soul and freedom
and the power to soar beyond life's margins.
I have the power to choose what I see in you
and the soul of you is what I choose to reflect back to you.

2. Ho'Oponopono - taking responsibility (from architectsofanewdawn.com)
Karen of Gratitude Power left me this message, when I asked her if I could use Ho'Oponopono on someone who I thought betrayed me?
Hi Ron,
With Ho'Oponopono you take responsibility for the situation whether you felt you caused it or not. Dr. Hew Len explained in his book that total responsibility for life means everything in your life--simply because it is in your life..
If you take responsibility for your life, everything you see, hear, taste, touch or in anyway experience, is your responsibility because it's your life. ( I had to sit with that for awhile, but eventually it made sense)

It's always about the "Self"--when you cleanse the self with I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you--it's not about the other person at all--i'ts between you and the divine. When Dr. Hew Len cured a hospital of patients, he never met any of them--but the case came into his life experience and he took responsibility for the experience by cleansing himself with Ho' Oponopono.

All of your experiences live within you--when you shift within, everything automatically shifts around you. One thing that I've tried in relationships is to just think of the person and say to yourself "I love you" over and over again. I find that softens the tension and energy around the situation. In the meantime Ho'Oponpono is always--I'm sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I love you--- it's about you---"peace begins with me"

Mr. Ron Alexander, I agree with you. All situations in life are our creations. We attract things, situations etc. because we have it in our consciousness. Like attracts like. Thoughts are things. We are our own thoughts. Nobody to blame. The Kingdom of Good is within you. The Kingdom of Good is your thought, when you think, when you make a decision.
3. SEE ONLY LOVE (Sharon and her angel card on architectsofanewdawn.com)

"Look past the seeming errors, mistakes, and misunderstandings, and see only the love within each person (including yourself).

Your resolute focus upon the love that underlies every situation brings about healing in undreamed-of ways.

See yourself, others, and every situation through our hearts. When you focus on love, anything that's unloving falls away. It's like turning on a light to diminish the previous darkness. Call upon the Angels whenever you need help to elevate your vision to a more loving vantage point.

Look past the personalities and egos of others, ans see the Angel within them. We can help you with this if it seems difficult at first. Forgive. Release anger, hurt or judgments to the Angels. Affirm what you desire, instead of what you fear.

Affirm often: "I unconditional accept all things, regardless of how they appear."

See only Love, as we see you, Love your Angels

What about loving relationships?

Last year, I was invited to a men's group comprised of men from a local spiritual community. I was dismayed that the subject was all about finding the right woman for a wife. I was told later that one reason is that the Guru of this group demands celibacy outside marriage. However, I have never seen so many needy grieving men. I told them that if I came back, I would be glad to lead them in exploring their needs and grief. I also told them to be careful what they were wishing for after getting out of a very unconscious marriage myself. I went ahead this year and formed my own men's group with a group of diverse men who are much more conscious.

A person who feels whole within themselves makes a better partner. I am not interested in a partner unless she "knows herSelf really well.

Candice said: I do agree with this, even if it's using their own children to "look good". This is exactly why my "philosophy" is if I don't know: Who I am, what I need and how to get that, I am literally dangerous because without meaning to, I will hurt myself and those around me.

For me it is somewhere in this process of getting to know ourself that the beauty of humanity lies. The innate thirst for peace and the consequential desire to know ourself is beautiful in and of itself. Additionally, as we unintentionally hurt ourself and those around us due to our very human lack of knowledge the flipside is an almost innate understanding of that condition from which things such as forgiveness, empathy, and understanding come from. As I begin to understand (and I am just beginning) my shortcomings I am dumbfounded by the ability of those that love me to have forgiven me so far in my life.

So, as to the four questions, the only answers I have ever been able to come up with are: I am me, I am energy (maybe), I am learning, and I may or may not have an actual purpose. However, as I learn and exist as energy in the form of me, I enjoy being kind, I like being treated kindly, and I like to find ways to use love to facilitate this kindness. This is how I attempt to quench this innate thirst for peace, and the most important thing to know about who and what I am is that I am flawed, and I am going to make mistakes. Thankfully so is everyone else, so I kind of fit in.

Think Only Love - See Only Love - Be Only Love

I would like to share that I am being reminded at this time that we don’t have to beware or be wary, there is nothing to be afraid of... There is nothing that exists which is outside ourselves.x..

Time does not exist… We are here in this new space now, creating it moment by moment & I am in true celebration of it.x..

It is time to be ‘not afraid’ & it’s time to trust, it’s time to love & remember, we are loved & It’s our birth-right!!

We are all one & we are connected to everything, no spaces, lines or gaps...
The universe is one loving being, one spirit, moving through one consciousness.x..

We create through thoughts, feelings, wishes, dreams...
Lack, need, can’t do, Have to heal will just end.
Negativity will be just a memory.x..

Polarity is fading away, in order for us to exist.x..

We are here to appreciate the difference between where our attention is and what our intention is.x..
The heart always knows & will never create anything that it detrimental to anything else, because the heart knows that We Are One.x..

When we judge, we judge ourselves & when we are in our brain, judgment in the world of illusion is futile... When we are in our heart, we are in a sacred space & intention is everything.x..

Wow, Cindy - just what I needed to hear today, thanks, One Love,

SEE ONLY LOVE

Current Check - in (Aug. 8. 3009) - "Love Never Faileth"

how's life dear?? I have recently returned from a silent Ten Day silent Vipassana meditation course which has transformed my life. I saw a documentary called "The Dhamma Brothers" (please google it) about teacher going in to the worst Alabama prison with the same course, and it transformed these convicted murderers. And since my nephew has spent time and probably much more now (drunk driving - ran from police - drove into a police car and injured the officer - just last Tues., so he faces serious time hopefully, as he has been a danger to himself and others for a few years now. So I may take this film to South Carolina prisons? Barry was fine under my tough love, but regressed when he inherited most of my Mom's stuff, and left my care, since I lost economic power over him. But that has turned out alright, I have reframed my paucity of inheritance to a Divine Inheritance. I have a bumper sticker that says "The best things in life are not things." and we know "the best things in life are free"

"Love Never Faileth"

WORD FOR THE DAY
Saturday, Aug. 8 (gratefulness.org)

An act of love that fails
is just as much a part
of the divine life as
an act of love that succeeds,
for love is measured by its
own fullness,
not by its reception.

Back from ten day silent Vipassana Retreat

Jeanne has sent you a message on Architects of a New Dawn

Congratulations Ron,

and welcome to the club... tee hee. You are now an old student... and it only took ten days to earn your stripes... ten long days.

Have you heard that each day at a vipassana retreat is ten days long, so a ten day retreat is equivalent to 100 days.

But seriously, I'm happy to hear that you completed what may be the best thing you've ever done. And I'm happy to call you a dhamma brother.

I'm signed up to do a service period in Washington from the 9th to the 19th. I'm looking forward to it.

Metta,("metta" means loving kindness)

Funny... who would have thought that sitting is hard?
On our first course, I glanced over at my husband at the end of an hour and he had so many cushions under him, that they looked like a chair. Now he uses only a small blanket folded over... just enough to slightly raise his lower spine. He swore at the end of that first course that he would never be able to be comfortable sitting... and now he is a marathon sitter.

...patiently and persistently, you are bound to succeed... I love those words.

Hi Jeane, thanks for your reply - my cushions against the backwall ended up looking like a throne, and I especially had a hard time during the one hour group sessions with the teachers looking on. However, I pleased to report that this morning I got up expecting a hard time sitting for one hour in my simple wooden meditation chair (I did add one cushion after all my "assskara" during the course). However, when I finally looked over at watch, I thought it would be between 30 & 45 minutes, and low and behold, it was 1 hour and 15 minutes!

I am trying to be equanimitous, instead of getting too "rah rah" about this. I asked Anand the teacher about "why not getting really excited about things like your team winning?". Expecting a lecture about how "pleasure samskaras were just as hurtful as painful ones in the long run", instead he simply looked at me with his clear eyes and beautiful smile and said:
"Why can't we be joyous every moment?"

Here is another helpful answer to me by Anand: as usual during meditation, besides using a mantra ("calmly and with equanimity" here), I was used to trying to develop my third eye - the sixth chakra. Here it kept getting blocked - felt like a hood over it. Anand told me "where did you learn that?" I told him from Swami Vishnu Devananda during a Sivananda teacher training course on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Anand replied:
"that is physical, here we work with mind and matter and mind is over matter." As we progressed in the ten day, I realized we developed awareness for whole body and not for special spots like the chakras.
One Love, ron

Love this people! Getting trained to accept reality for what it is, without wavering to and fro. To live in each moment, and try to enjoy it for what it is....What a concept!

Best,
Mike
