Ron Alexander Untrue, the ego is a modern Western psych. word/concept created by Freud. He defined it as the CONSCIOUS connection between the id(lower self) and the superego ((lower self). It has been demonized into a dualistic devil by new age thinkers. Thinking "it separates us from God" is like fundamentalists blaming...

What really separates us from God is what The Buddha said our thinking, our mind. There was no concept of ego back then, unless there was a Sanskrit or Pali word?

Ron Alexander I was abused as a child, physically and verbally. The verbal part has been the longest lasting wound. "You are no good, lazy, will never make anything of yourself, only girls have curls, ...". Years later I realized my Father was projecting his own sense of shame on me. I became a workalholic to please him, to stay in his good graces.

  Yes, it has been a long healing process, starting with realizations in Grad School in San Francisco in 1985. Grief of a lost childhood needs to be addressed first, and then healing to me is balancing that ego, where I have solid sense of self, without having to prove myself to anyone. What do you think dear DeeLIGHT? 

Agreed ... the process of lost childhood ... which brings with it ... forgiveness. Not to say what was done can be condoned, no ... but to HELP you and that wounded child HEAL!
Then ... taming the ego a bit ... no proving ANYTHING TO ANYONE ... but yourself dear one, TRULY, this is for RON!

Ron Alexander Respectfully, dear DeeLIght, I think this info. needs to be shared. Are you interested into writing a book together about it. There used to be a lot of Healing the Inner Child in the 80's, however there seems to be a paucity of them now.?

Ron Alexander Blaming satan is the same as blaming the ego. The ego, as seen as the self in self esteem, does need balancing, as too much ego, is compensating for having a weak sense of self. We need our ego to grow in Spirit. Meher Baba writes about this in his Discourses. To destroy the ego is ...destroying part of ourselves, as long as we are in our body. Unconditional love does not leave out the ego. Even if you think it is your enemy, remember Jesus said "love your enemy."

Ron Alexander Equating mind with ego is the problem here. The ego is not our thinking mechanism. It helps us translate our id, our survival issues to the superego, so we can rationally let go of fear, like that "rope is not a snake."
