Dog rescued in desert

I tried to make friends with a dog who made the Mojave Desert its' home near a camping area. Campers would leave food and water especially out for this fiercely independent dogs. He would make sure a distance of several yards would be between him and humans. I saw him chasing a rabbit in the moonlight on a nearby ridge - an awesome sight. He was white and known locally as "Ghost". He was a legend for several years around there. I was there as a counselor with a Byron Katy Gro...up in the middle 90's. We also were hit by a 7.8 earthquake at night while in my sleeping bag. Thank goodness it was local and only knocked a train off its track as only known bad damage. I enjoyed it at first, felt like a massage bed, until co-counselor woke me up and suggested we get students on concrete parapet in case chasm opened up. The only ones slightly shaken up were the students who stayed in Holiday Inn nearby. If this size quake hit in a heavily populated area there would have been many casualties. The famous 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco was 6.8 in comparison. There are many local quakes unreported all over California, you just feel them in bed and hope they don't get worse...Ron Alexander
