Simplicity of Accepting the Moment

In the end, we realize how simple life if
when we accept this moment, just as it is,
without pretending to be other than
who we are.    Richard Miller

Lindsay Lock Butler I have to disagree. The past choices at least help determine [some] what your present choices are. The past experiences help determine who we are- we can either live in the past making the same mistakes or we can learn from it. As humans, we also use past experiences to help us make sense of present situations and make choices. I do agree that we should not live in the past because there is nothing we can do to change it. We should live in this moment because it is what we have

Hi Lindsay Lock Butler , thanks for commenting. I disagree with alot of Eckhart writing at first, then gradually, I realize he is writing idealistically. In an ideal state he is right. However how many of us live there?  To me I describe it as reality vs. Reality as self vs. Self. The capital "R" and the capital "S" is if we are living in Perfection. To me, the key is to be aware of Reality and Selfhood, and seek to get closer and closerr as we get older, however as long as we are in this body on this Earth, we have to deal with reality and selfhood(also called ego). To me, awareness and balance are keys, and living in  the moment, if reached a few times every day, we can grow to a few more moments of Pure Self gradually. For me that takes a lot of meditation/prayer, and the older I get the more I meditate/pray - that is why I strive to "pray without ceasing" in mindfulness moment to monent. And NOT BEAT MYSELF UP on my many lapses!
Lindsay Lock Butler Ron Alexander, thanks for explaining that viewpoint. It is true that Ideally it would not have any influence. We would just move on.

Ron Alexander Lindsay Lock Butler - children brought up in a loving safe atmosphere, like i am sure you and hubby provide, are Masters at living in the Now- great teachers aren't they?

Lindsay Lock Butler oh they sure are. They are great at living in the the now.

Ron Alexander Yes, when children feel safe in the cocoon of their parents love - thanks for role modeling what it takes to raise Spiritual Teachers and that is why it says in the Bible -" to enter the gates of Heaven, come as a child again" or something like that. Lindsay Lock Butler!

Fully experiencing the moment is the closest one can get to experiencing eternity. (ACIM?)

Interestingly, "now" is used in the Bible over 1400 times!
