9:00 am Listening Circle(s)
What: Mindful sitting, walking, and listening circles in the style of the Plum Village tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. Organizers are committed to using peaceful and nonviolent means. This means practicing peace as part of organizing, while at the protest, and afterwards. This also means not enabling police violence.
Why: To bring the practice of compassion, love, and deep listening to Charleston's public spaces so that we might understand what breaks our hearts about current racial suffering and identify what needs healing around race.
Who: Members of Indigo Sangha, The Coalition, Unity Church, Unitarian Universalist Church, and Circular Congregation.
When: Sunday, August 23rd 8:00-10:00 am--meeting at the corner of King and South Battery streets (the opposite end of the Battery away from the Confederate monument). The group will assemble at 8 am and practice slow walking meditation together toward our sitting place.
How: This is a safe, inclusive, and nonviolent action. Participants will be instructed to practice Noble Silence until it is time to share in Listening Circles. The circles will be facilitated by Indigo Sangha members.  EVERYONE IS ASKED TO MASK UP, AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING IN THIS OUTDOOR SETTING.
