The Real Captain Ron

Had a great time photographing the Long Island Regatta here in the Out Islands of the Bahamas last weekend. the wooden racing sloops sure can fly ..
here are a few of my photos

Ron Alexander Long Island this time, ah. Different from Georgetown? When I was there, a disastrous 75 mph wind came in from the open NW. sinking most of the boats. It turned out to be from Volcano Mt. St. Helens coming in with the jet stream 3 days later. I was happy that I had 3 anchors out with the poor holding bottom. Plus I had the deisel running full speed, had to wear goggles to see. Two students with long boat poles fended off out of control boats on each side. A big out of control Gulfstar, with the owner, paniced holding anchor line on the foredeck, whizzed by and sunk several of the fragile wooden racing boats ( they were much more primitive back then). I asked the native captains if they were going to ask the Gulfstar for insurance, they shrugged and said it was nature's fault. Boats like the Tida Wave did not show up then at Long Island.

Patricia Clayton Pall To the sailor Ron: I found your account fascinating—but too short.... write a book?😲
